WINTER 2012-2013

12.15.12.

A very busy season so far - too busy, really! But there's a lot to show for it, and I'm mostly just psyched to be alive still.

So excited to announce that "Hell is for Awesome" is now in the permanent collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art. The painting is on display into February, so if you're in the area, please stop by - their Thomas Hart Benton collection brings me to tears whenever I'm there, and the truly monumental 9-11 piece by Graydon Parrish has grown increasingly provocative and important in the years since it was created.

We had lots of fun in Miami this year and were lucky enough once again to have work at Aqua Art with William Baczek Fine Arts during Art Basel week. The Aqua Opening party was a true highlight of the week, along with the much-needed beach time.

oh yeah + if you're in northampton check out the window display at William Baczek Fine Arts - I'm in love and missing my little deers on display there but - as they've told me, repeatedly - they have been enjoying their little Main Street spotlight.

11.15.11.

Are you ready for the holidays? I am - not!

The most funnest part will be at the beginning of December, when Aqua Art opens in Miami, coinciding with Art Basel and several other festivals. William Baczek Fine Arts will once again be bringing a bunch of smaller works to Aqua, and I'll be there for the beach, the shows, as well as an SMFA alumni gathering at Gallery Diet on the 2nd!

Plus don't forget the Museum School December Sale, starting on December 8th this year. I'll have some paintings there as well as a couple of surprises. Whoa!

Stay tuned for more news and updates - I'm working on several short films at once, as well as a long-freaking-overdue update of this site - Whoa!

(FALL 2010)

09.22.2010
I can't believe how awesome this summer was! It was so great and so busy that I completely forgot to update the site. Uh-oh!

The show at Wm. Baczek Fine Arts in Northampton was lots of fun, and it was truly an honor to see my work up at such a beautiful and well-run gallery. Also, "The Valley of the Meaning of the Night" was auctioned at the Summer Arts Party at the MFA Boston in June - it was really a totally fantastic night, with bunches of champagne and amazingly nice people everywhere.

I've added a second film to the projects list for the next 6 months: Along with "The Two Comets", I'll be filming "Hell is For Awesome", a story about the devil and his son; Both will be formatted in Film Versions as well as 3-channel Gallery Versions.

Oh, and if you're in Miami for any of the festivals this December? Be sure to check out Aqua Art - I'll have some work there with Will Baczek, and will also be in town to check out all the awesome stuff. Stay tuned for updates!

(Spring 2010)

04.28.2010
Hey! "Kip and Vanilla Chip" will be premiering at the SMFA Film and Animation Annual tomorrow! If you're in Boston, stop by the Museum of Fine Arts at 5:30 to check it out. There will be a fun reception at SMFA afterwards, so definitely stop by.

This has been an insanely busy year so far. I've never worked so hard for so long on something as I did with "Kip and Vanilla Chip". There is a 3-channel "Gallery Version" that is very dear to my heart, but also a more accessible "Film" version that I will be submitting to festivals in the near future. This film is quite literally a dream come true for me. It was exhausting and costly in many ways, but also profoundly rewarding.

As enlightening and fun as it was to work on "Kip and Vanilla Chip", I'm looking forward to putting the camera away and painting lots of pictures this summer, both big and small. I'll also be building the dolls and sets and finishing the script for the next Werewolf Movie! Production: "The Two Comets", a story of love and stuff starring Sno-Pop! and that funny red cat Two Comets. (Winter 2010)

02.08.10.
If you're in Boston in February, stop by the main gallery at SMFA to see "Strings," a little film made from my first-ever 3-channel video installation.

Also, in March, a Kip and Vanilla Chip 3-channel video installation will be part of a group show at the Laconia Gallery in Boston. The installation will feature a video-length version of "A Puppyshow!", along with a handmade set and many dolls and props from the film.

Check back soon for scenes from "A Puppyshow!", as well as an archive of music by The Look-Ups, who are right now working very hard on the film's soundtrack.

Oh, and if you were at the Baczek Gallery for the Auction to benefit victims of the Northampton Fires? Thank you for being there, it meant a lot to me and my town, and everybody in it.

(Holidays 2009-2010)
Hey it's time for the Holidays - Maybe that's why everything feels so crazy at the studio!

-The Kip and Vanilla Chip movie is expanding daily. The props are all over the place, and the set is complete! Stay tuned for production pics and film clips...

-Hey did you get a chance to visit the Inside Out sale at SMFA this year? Stevie had a few of his doll-filled boxes for sale there, as well as some newer paintings and some soft-toothed Snowmen - Ha!

-Oh and if you're in Northampton? There's a Twist pop-up store in Thorne's all the way 'til xmas, with bunches of stuff from local craftsfolk and artists - including Stevie! Check it out, it's on the 2nd floor where that kooky tooth place used to be.

-Also keep an eye out for the Commonwealth Center for Change's Spectacular Winter Windows project. Stevie will be designing a Holiday Window at Happy Valley Gifts, right on Main Street. The official opening is in early December, but you can get a sneak preview as early as Thanksgiving!

-Other than all that, be sure to visit this website for the premiere of the tiny film "Holiday Card", coming soon. It's only like a minute long so if you blink you might miss it!

-Happy Holidays!
(Late Summer 2009)
Hey what's up? It's almost the end of August! Stevie is looking for a studio in Boston for the fall, and will be splitting his time between there and his tiny little room in Northampton.

This is what's going on right now:

1. The "Simply the Best" show is up from now through October at the Courtyard Gallery of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. One of Stevie's paintings - "The Alphabets of Valentine" - is part of this show, so stop by if you get a chance.

2. Also, The Lowell Film Collaborative will be showing the film "Making Devil Babies" as part of their "Cinema at Studio A" Film Series on Thursday, September 3. This is pretty much definitely gonna be a fun show...

3. Make sure to check the Gallery section if you get a chance - Stevie finished several big paintings this summer and they should be posted by the beginning of September. There's a bunch of tiny ones too! Some of the smaller ones will be up for grabs on Etsy as well. Ha!

(Summer 2009)
This summer looks pretty busy so far! Here are a couple of highlights:

1) "Threaded" is a cool group show of Fiber Artists at Gallery 51 in North Adams opening at the end of June. Stevie will have some stuff there so don't miss it!

2) The "Giant Sale" Market will be opening in early July at the A.P.E. Gallery on Main Street in Northampton. This is a superfun show curated by Sara Blaylock and Rachel Glaser and will feature a pretty awesome collection of Stevie's dolls. Whoa!

3) Stevie will also be showing many new paintings and creatures in the Main Gallery at the Artists Foundation in Boston from the end of July through August. The opening will most definitely be lots of fun!

4) The "Simply the Best" show at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, will be opening mid-August. Stevie's "The Alphabets of Valentine" will be part of this show.

5) We are officially in pre-production for "Kip and Vanilla Chip", a stop-motion film starring a hallucinating, dimension-crossing dog and cat team. If everything goes right, filming will being in early August!

Also, keep your eyes opened for more films from Werewolf Movie! - Both "Moon and Star" and "Making Devil Babies" should be playing in more festivals soon ... We'll definitely keep you updated!

(Spring 2009)
Stevie's got a lot of stuff coming up!

1)"Making Devil Babies", Stevie's first animated film, will be premiering at the Reynolda Film Festival in North Carolina the first weekend of April. "Devil Babies" will also be showing at the Hinterland Film Festival at the Bookmill in Montague, MA on the 24th or 25th of April. The lineups for both of these festivals look awesome.

2) If you happen to be attending the Alex Katz tribute at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston on Saturday, April 18th, look for Stevie and his painting "Moon and Star", which will be auctioned off during the evening, with the proceeds going to the awesome School of the Museum of Fine Arts. This is going to be just as fun as the Julian Schnabel tribute last year!

3) Hey, were you at the Twist Fair in Northampton last September? It was like a superfun Craft Show with lots of nice people and fun stuff. They're doing it again the first weekend of May and once again, Werewolf Movie! will be there, with new dolls, comics, small paintings, and other cool stuff. Check it out!

4) Keep an eye out for Stevie's next animated film - "Moon and Star" should be finished by May, as well as a short video for "Morris and Orris", Stevie's favorite song by The Look-Ups.

(January 2009)
Hey Happy New Year! 2008 was pretty fun - Stevie painted some big pictures and also finished his first animated movie. It's called "Making Devil Babies" and it's 4 and a half minutes of fun with the devil and his friends. We'll try to get a preview of it online in the next coupla weeks.

Also, look for "The Alphabets of Valentine" in the Student Annual show at SMFA. This painting will also be featured in a show at The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston this summer!

We'll update you on new shows and stuff as soon as we can - it's gonna be a pretty busy year!

(May 2008)
Fun Show in Northampton! Hey guess what? Stevie's having a show at the Northampton Center for the Arts in Northampton, Massachusetts from like the beginning of May to the beginning of June. The opening is on May 9th from 4-7 and you should totally stop by since there's going to be cupcakes and liquor and stuff. Plus there's some pretty nice new paintings!

P.S. If you were lucky enough to get invited to the May 12th gala dinner honoring Julian Schnabel at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, look for Stevie! He will be there! Also a couple of his paintings will be up for bidding at an auction to benefit students at the Museum School. Pretty fun!
